Spring watch 2016 - Sea Lampreys spawning

I filmed these bizarre and very ancient fish in the River Wye. Like salmon, they spend most of their adult lives at sea, returning to freshwater to spawn and die.

Wild Mexico: the vegetarian spider

This jumping spider steals food that an Acacia plant has laid on for the ants that live within the plant and protect it. This was all filmed in the wild and to counteract the constant breeze we had to use strings tied to heavy camera cases to keep the stems of the plant as still as possible. 

Wild Mexico: Monarch Butterflies

In central Mexico, in a few scattered mountain pine forests, the entire population of North America's monarch butterflies come to spend winter before migrating north to breed and feed and start the cycle all over again.

A huge swamp in southern Georgia, USA. Here a bustling breeding colony of wading birds attracts some unwelcome attention …. Skyvision for Animal Planet and National Geographic. 

Atchafalaya - River Swamp

The Atchafalaya river in Louisiana, USA, is an off shoot of the Mississippi. But - untamed - it meanders through a maze of lakes, bayous and marshes on its lazy journey south to the Gulf of Mexico. Skyvision for Animal Planet and National Geographic.

This was from a shoot on Meerkat Manor - the rising sun was to play through the branches of the trees and send shadows gracefully sweeping across the foreground …. I didn't bargain for a horse with a mind of its own.
